Pownce tried to build a better Twitter with an Air base and additional features. It didn’t succeed, for me, – Why? Because the people I wanted to interact with are on Twitter. I doubt that Yammer will be more compelling than Twitter unless it appeals to CEOs and company IT managers in such a way that it becomes the “company voice”.

Ginny, I really think that Yammer is going to be different. The reason being that instead of just trying to copy twitter, and do it “better”, this is focused on being useful with a corporation. Corporations are just now grasping the power of Community Engagement, and want to get in the game, but don’t know how. Corporations are beginning to understand the power of internal community engagement (internal social media), and finally, here is a tool that THEY can use. For that reason I think Yammer is going to have a certain degree of success.
